Account Management | Uphold® Help Center™

Managing your Uphold account in 2026 requires a balance of maintaining up-to-date personal information and utilizing the latest security protocols. The Uphold Help Center is the primary resource for troubleshooting, with a heavy emphasis on "Self-Service" tools to minimize wait times.

1. Updating Personal Information

To remain compliant with 2026 financial regulations, Uphold requires your profile data to be accurate.

  • Email Address: Navigate to Menu > Settings > Profile. Tap the edit icon next to your email. You will need to verify the change through both your old and new email addresses.
  • Phone Number: Essential for 2FA. In the app, go to Settings > Profile > Phone. If you no longer have access to your old number, you must use the "Reset Password and Phone Number" feature on the login screen, which will trigger a manual identity review.
  • Residential Address: While you can update your street address in settings, changing your Country or State requires contacting support directly, as this may change the products and assets available to you.

2. Security & Access Control

Uphold has introduced mandatory security features to combat sophisticated phishing and AI-driven fraud.

  • Mandatory Passcode: As of 2026, all mobile users must set a 6-digit app passcode. This is separate from your login password and protects the app even if your phone is unlocked.
  • Biometrics: You can toggle FaceID or TouchID in Settings > Security. If biometrics fail three times, the app will revert to your manual passcode.
  • 2FA Recovery: If you lose your 2FA device, use the "Having problems with the code?" link on the login page. You will be asked to perform a Live Selfie Verification to regain access. Note that withdrawals are typically restricted for 24 hours following a 2FA reset for your protection.

3. Account Status & Verification (KYC)

Uphold performs "Periodic Reviews" to ensure all active users meet current legal standards.

4. Closing or Freezing an Account

  • Instant Freeze: If you suspect your account has been compromised, use the "Freeze Account" button in the Help menu of the mobile app. This instantly disables all outgoing transactions.
  • Closing Your Account: To permanently close your account, you must first withdraw all balances to zero. Once empty, go to Settings > Profile > Close Account. Per regulatory requirements, Uphold is legally obligated to retain your transaction data for a set period (usually 5–7 years) after closure.

5. Contacting Support

If the Help Center articles do not resolve your issue, Uphold offers two primary support paths:

  1. In-App Tickets: (Recommended) Go to Menu > Help > My Tickets. This automatically authenticates your identity, leading to faster resolution times (usually under 12 hours).
  2. Webform: Use the Official Request Form if you are unable to log in.
